Week 3 and Picking Apples

Let's start this off with the capstones of the week:  Picking Apples!!!

There are a number of local orchards and vineyards.  Also, there are a ton of roadside stands that sale farm-fresh fruits and vegetables!  Including, farmer's markets. O, and lots of chicken farms!  A variety of ways to obtain great food!!!

We set out on a beautiful Saturday morning.  It was about 75 degrees with a 10% humidity!  Which is rare around here.

Showalter's Orchard!  It was a neat mid-size farm! And depending upon the day, they have a number of different types of apples to pick.  We were able to pick Golden Delicious, Johnathan, and Red Delicious. 

You could either pick your own or buy pre-picked apples.  We of course picked our own.

Absolutely Delicious Apples!!!

Just a quick update on my schooling: Last week (during the second week) we worked on our cadavers even more! Opening the chest cavity, we found that ours had a HUGE heart! It was approximately 3 times the size of a regular heart! Our lab assistant explained the dissection as if we delivered a baby from its chest!  In fact, it makes easier to identify the specific vessels and cavities on the heart!

This week we had our first Pathophysiology test, which covered cancer and the immune system.  I have set a goal to study as if all tests are fill-in the blank and not multiple choice. (it was a multiple choice test) So far it has paid off, I got a 91%!  

Tomorrow is our first anatomy test.  It will be a mix between multiple choice and label the structures. There will be colored pins in certain organs and we will have to answer the questions associated with the pinned portion.  This will include cross-sectionals, cadavers, skeletal models and radiographs.

To add to the load, we have a Physical Diagnosis (Dx) test on Tuesday.  This will include communication and interview type questions.  We are slowly getting our medical equipment in. We had ordered them during the first week of school.  This week the stethoscopes came it!
