Hey! I know that it has a been week or so since I last posted, sorry about that. O, and sorry that their are no pictures for this post either. I am a big fan adding color to life!
I have been busy running around from one facility to another. I work PRN for both Intermountain Healthcare and University of Utah Hospital. I having been bouncing around like this for about three years now. Though, I get tired of the mundane drives, it is nice to see so many different things. I cover an orthopedic clinic where they do spinal injections (Dudes with tattoos are the biggest babies!) for pain management. And the ortho docs are Extremely particular about the images we send over. It has made me a better technologist for it.
I also cover a trauma I hospital where the portable x-rays are never run dry! I have gained an understanding of stress management from all the CraZy things I have seen there! Huntsman Cancer Hospital is one of my favorite places to cover. I have a great compassion towards those that are fighting, what seems to be a never-ending battle=Cancer! A couple of years ago I trained as a Radiation Therapist there and during the weekend I would work as a x-ray tech. I would see the same patients that I was helping treat during the week. It was great to see their progress!
Let me keep adding: I cover multiple instacares (I do MA procedures here: vital signs, rapid streps, urinalysis, and wraps.) and clinics as well. All of the foreign/refugee patients come to one in particular. We work closely with translators and we have had to get use to using our made-up sign language to communicate with some patients.
I feel that I have gained a great deal of experience! One of the most interesting things that has been occurring lately, is the doctors have been treating me differently since they found out I got accepted into PA school. I have had doctors go out of their way to come shake my hand and congratulate me. (Shocked!) One doc at a instacare, had me come follow him, during work and taught me how to do certain basic exams on patients. A PA up to Huntsman, during an femoral nail(For those of you who don't know what this is, its a rod that is inserted into their femur and extends the entire length of the bone.) procedure (in the O.R.). He stopped the procedure to congratulate me and then proceeded to explain the 'hows' and 'whys' of the rodding (They rarely explain anything to anyone what is going on in the O.R.).
I was completely taken back by the attention and willingness to educate me. I am thankful for their kindness! I work with a number of wonderful doctors and other type of physicians!

SOOOO true about big guys with tattoos!! We had one squirrely guy with cellulitits from a new tattoo and he was so nervous everytime we had to shoot him up! He opted for injections rather than IV antibiotics... doesn't make any sense!!!
I started a blog since you did! Mostly because I was freaked out last night about that 3 yr old with not strep but pancytopenia=cancer. Poor kid :(
